Dear Birdhaven Residents

We hope you are well. 

We have received confirmation from the James and Ethel Gray Foundation that an event is being held tomorrow, 5 March 2022, at the James and Ethel Gray Park between 12h00 and 23h00 known as “Its Personal”. More details received from the Foundation are set out below together with contact numbers of the organizers and their team in the attached flyer. Consequently, please exercise caution in and around the park.

INFORMATION FROM THE JAMES AND ETHEL GRAY PARK FOUNDATION REGARDING EVENT ON 5 MARCH 2022 (KNOWN AS ITS PERSONAL)

Its personal event, Saturday, 5 March 2022, 12h00-23h00

The Foundation has advised the BRA that-

  1. This Saturday, there will be an event in the James and Ethel Gray Park. The primary area of activity will be the circle of the park which will be cordoned off with temporary fencing.
  2. The organizers have been engaged with City of Johannesburg and its entities as well as the relevant law enforcement entities( JMPD, SAPS etc) and there will be sixty (60) private security officials in addition to SAPS ( Gauteng & Norwood Police Station) and JMPD on site. The latter includes the City of Johannesburg Joint Operations Committee(JOC) which will do a site inspection on Saturday morning.
  3. The organizers and City Parks have informed the Foundation that all processes and approvals have been put in place.
  4. The Foundation will also have its own people onsite to ensure that all processes are adhered to by the organisers.
  5. Marquees and other structures erected at the park circle will be removed on Sunday 6 March 2022.
  6. There will be a sound engineer on site for the duration of the event, to comply with by laws on sound (95 decibels), and there will be food, drinks and music. Remote parking has been arranged at Melrose Arch and there will be shuttles from Melrose Arch to the park for attendees.
  7. its personal flyerThe community is requested to exercise caution in around the park during this period as there is likely to be more vehicles entering the park as well as pedestrians on the roads as the maximum capacity is 2000 people.
